Where It All Began
VOSAN launched as a simple community hub — a place to share the tracks that were running on a private drift server. A small corner of the internet for a passionate group of drivers.
Opening to the Community
We opened up mod submission forms, letting anyone submit their mods to be shared with the community. At this stage we shared the original download links provided by creators themselves, driving traffic directly to their sources to help support them and their work.
Submissions, Partnerships & Keeping Content Alive
We began partnering with events to bring competitive track content to the public, letting the community see how their favourite drivers stacked up against the pros they watched on stream. During this period we also began uploading content directly ourselves — with creator permission — to stop download links going dead and keep the library alive. We continued to build on our relationships with event partners, bringing more competitive tracks to the community.
Direct Uploads & Creator Accounts
We took the next step and opened up full creator accounts, allowing modders to upload their content directly to our own storage. No more dead links, no middleman — creators owned their page and their content was safe.
A Year of Learning
A new website update launched that did not quite hit the mark visually, but this period taught us a great deal. We also released the early phase of our sales portal, letting creators begin selling their content on VOSAN for the first time.
The Vision, Realised
The 2026 update brought together everything we had learned across every iteration of VOSAN — from the visual design to the depth of features available to creators and users alike. This is the platform I had in mind three years ago. We got here. And I am incredibly excited for what comes next.
One Person, a Big Vision
Those who were with us from the early days will remember this.
The VOSAN Drift Team
In the earlier days I put a huge amount of time into the drift team — recruiting members, competing myself, writing news articles, creating posters, images, and videos, designing liveries, and supporting drivers while they competed. At the same time I was working with events, getting their content live for the public, taking screenshots, writing social posts for Twitter, Facebook, and Discord, and trying to reach as many people as possible. For events I would also write full articles, doing my best to cover the action, give an overview of what went down, and drive people to watch streams and compete. I was incredibly motivated in those early days to grow competitive sim drifting — to set a standard that teams and drivers could follow. I had a big vision for where we could all be as a sim drifting community.
The Media Side of VOSAN
Between 2019 and 2023, alongside running the platform, I put a huge amount of effort into creating media content to properly showcase every mod that came through. Every car that was submitted — I would photograph it myself, from every angle, keeping a consistent quality across the entire library so users could really see what they were downloading before committing to it. Then I would produce a full showcase video for the car on top of that. For tracks, I would go in and capture proper screenshots for the posts too.
When One Person Hits Their Limit
As you can imagine, as the site grew and grew, this became harder and harder to sustain as a single person — but I gave it everything I had for as long as I could, and people genuinely appreciated the videos and images. The problem was that mods get updated, and suddenly you need a new video, new pictures, all over again.
A Need to Compensate People for Their Work
With all of this work becoming too much for one person, things started to slowly fade — one by one, each of the unique things I was bringing to the community began fizzling out. As the website grew larger and demanded more of my time to fix bugs, mediate between creators, and maintain relationships with partners, something had to give. There is only so much one person can do. I always wanted to find people to take over the aspects I had let go of, but I could never ask someone to give their time and skills for free — that would not be right. So instead, those things quietly disappeared. But if we exceed our running costs through all of these new revenue streams, my intention is to pay people to bring those parts of VOSAN back to life.
I share this not as a complaint, but because I want people to understand the love and effort that has gone into every corner of this platform. VOSAN has always been a labour of passion. This site is not a burden, but quite the opposite — it is a place of passion and inspiration, focus and direction, and a lot of really great people.
How We Keep VOSAN Running
We believe in being open with our community. Here is the honest story of how VOSAN has been funded for 8 years — and where we are headed.
8 Years of Building
VOSAN has been funded by myself (Matt) and through advertising since day one. I honestly dislike ads just like everyone — they tarnish the brand and the user experience, and this is never what I want. The reality of general ad networks is poor quality, irrelevant content, and almost no control over what gets displayed to our community. That is what we moved away from. Today, registered members see zero ads, and guests see only a handful, generating less than £3 per day. If ads ever return in any form, it would be a shared revenue model with creators — likely in-stream video only, similar to YouTube or Twitch. But even then, our preference would be direct, custom sponsorships over ad networks entirely. Finding the right sustainable funding model is honestly one of the hardest parts of keeping this platform alive. We hope to remove the remaining guest ads before the end of the year, keeping them for now only to maintain a small, predictable income to plan our expenses against.
Building Sustainable Revenue
Replacing ad revenue was no small feat. We had to learn international payments, sales tax law across multiple countries, payment processor integrations, and more — all while continuing to run and grow the platform. Our sales portal is now live and stable, where creators sell products, services, and build their communities directly on VOSAN. We charge a 7% + £0.30 platform fee and absorb all payment processing costs ourselves, leaving creators with more of their earnings. That is the lowest fee of any marketplace platform on the web. Our creator economy and financial tools are designed to support creators and make it easier and safer for drivers to purchase the content they need. There is no worry of being scammed at VOSAN — we work between buyers and sellers to ensure content and payment is delivered, and both parties are happy. Ensuring creators are paid a majority of their earnings, not a minority like the major marketplace platforms.
What's Next
Our event manager — with built-in ticketing and entry fee payments — is the next revenue stream we are rolling out. As each of these tools gains adoption, our goal of a fully ad-free, community-funded platform gets closer to reality. VOSAN+ members are a huge part of making that happen. Beyond new revenue streams, we plan to continue updating and improving every existing feature on the platform — bringing stability, growth, speed, and optimisation. This is our promise to our community for the future of VOSAN. I do not see VOSAN going anywhere anytime soon. I see the tide rising — and all of the ships will rise with it. I see a future that is big and bright for everyone in this sim drifting space. I will continue with my efforts to bring new life and growth into the Assetto Corsa drifting and competitive drifting scenes. That has been my goal since the beginning, and the fire of that passion has not burned out — only grown larger as the years progress.
